Mariella Pilato

Mariella Pilato grew up in the town of Sorrento, a beautiful town built along the cliffs of the Mediterranean in Southwest Italy. Not only a spectacular place to begin life, but also a place full of legends with mythical creatures in them! It was the perfect environment to nourish that creative itch.
Pilato studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples and Florence. Her background is in stage design, but her creative thirst has always driven her to go beyond and learn new crafts. Besides her jewelry making; knitting, sewing, and drawing are just a few of her artistic outlets. “The need to use my hands,” as she puts it, led her to jewelry making.

Shortly after school Mariella gravitated toward another magical land filled with mythical legends and ancient arts, the Hindu island of Bali. She traveled from one exotic locale to the next falling in love with the people and their amazing background in jewelry making.
She opened her studio there and has been creating and fabricating her one-of-a-kind line of jewelry with her amazing team of Javanese jewelers ever since. Now nearly two decades later, Mariella has an impressive and bold line of jewelry that she exhibits at many shows throughout the year.

Her process starts with the stones. “I buy what attracts me, what I like,” says Pilato. She looks at the stone for shape and color and then imagines it as a ring, pendant, etc. Then Mariella sits down and starts drawing and playing with ideas for the stones.
She uses sterling silver, wood and gold plating in her work. A lovely variety of stones are used including crystals, quartz, turquoise, peridot and topaz.
Mariella Pilato’s work is geometric and bold! Between the funky shapes, the contrast of the bright silver and oxidized silver, and the variety of stones she uses…. these pieces stand out from the rest.
They fill that want of a “funky” pair of earrings to go with that “kicky” outfit.
Be bold in your beauty, for there is no one else like you!
