The first thing I notice, the very minute really, when a customer walks through the door at the Gallery is, “they are swept”. What I mean by that, if it is not obvious, is, their minds stop chattering and their senses become fully activated, the mind has stopped. That is what Beauty does to us and through the works of close to 200 small studio artists, the Kalled Gallery is a place where excitement and peace sit side by side.
Many of the artists that I carry are friends of mine. We have been traveling together figuratively & literally in art shows around the country in this small sub-culture for decades. Keeping the arts alive by sheer stubbornness, willfulness & heart, in the believe, that we create form, (whether it be pottery, glass, fabric, jewelry,) worth sharing. I have been so fortunate, to not only have a successful career as a jewelry artist, but to represent such talent that otherwise might not be seen, touched & experienced in a culture that continues to become more homogenized.
As your eyes sweep the room they will rest on sculpture by Jorge. Strong, breathy, hypnotizing. Metal twisted and worked into the most captivating forms; a music conductor, a violinist, a piano player, a samurai. Then, the eyes rest on ceramic sculpture by Margarite, one wants to perform an act of prayer when you look into the eyes of her pegasus, polar bear, little girl. What these artists have accomplished, is to imbue these forms with emotions that we share and recognize in ourselves. That in my opinion is excellent art.
